Wow finally back home after living in Canada’s Arctic for 4 months!

On my flight back home I flew with Air Canada Jazz where I surprisingly had a vast array of music to choose from as part of the XM radio music deal as well as movies and television choices. I found myself listening to UNKLE‘s album entitled ‘Where Did the Night Fall’. The entire album was perfect for listening in the air which I assume is the reason it got promoted in such a way.

Among the track list, The Answer featuring Big in Japan came to be one of my favorite bangers on the album, which by the way is their fifth studio album. Heavy drug which is only 1:13 minutes long  makes a nice mix as well as a beautiful introduction for the track Caged Bird that follows right after it.

Here’s The Answer ft Big in Japan. Music starts at around 1:40

Don’t forget to check out the rest of the album!

Gah it’s good to be home :)

Anamanaguchi is buzzing right now because they contributed to the soundtrack for the Scott Pilgrim video game.  I can’t really describe how much I like their music, both in concept and in practice. The sound chip in the NES is one of my favourite sounds ever;  even with a modern band combining it perfectly with drums and guitar, it still takes me right back to those good ol’ halcyon days when I was an indestructible little kid.

But now I’m a grown up indestructible man with a blog, and I’ve got to show you THIS:

Anamanaguchi – Airbrushed (acoustic, live in Toronto)

Anamanaguchi | A Take Away Show | Airbrushed from La Blogotheque on Vimeo.

The band switches up their electric guitars for acoustics here for a La Blogotheque take-away show, during NxNE in Toronto. A random guy charges out of the door early on in the video and seems to be caught off guard by a live band performing right outside. Anamanaguchi drops BOMBS, and you can listen to Dawn Metropolis, their latest album, HERE.

Vancouver’s Dan Mangan put together a really nice video for his song Robots. It starts off kinda dumb, but at the end you’ll be going “awwwwwwwww”.

The Hood Internet have collaborated with Kid Static on a very amusing music video. They’re putting a release out together on Sept. 7, so look out for THAT.

Kid Static – Chi City (produced by The Hood Internet)

I had the pleasure of seeing The Hood Internet a couple weeks ago and, while the show was delightful, it was Vancouver’s Blondtron who really stole the show. She started her set by dropping Riverside, and that’s pretty much all you need to do to get me worked up. Girl went extra hard and had a fantastic energy on stage – and that’s to say nothing of the plastic hand bra she wore for half the night. Daymn.

Major Lazer’s remix of Gyptian’s Hold You is my favorite track on the LAZERPROOF Major Lazer / La Roux split Mixtape.

Chromeo’s new video dropped last week and it’s magnificent.

Chromeo – Don’t Turn the Lights On

It looks really cheap, and it looks like a million bucks at the same time. Chromeo’s new album, which is awesomely called “Business Casual”, is out September 14th. Go sweep your dancefloor.

Update: FUCKing Atlantic WMG music puts a video on Youtube but they don’t want anyone watching it. Fuck right off, Atlantic WMG. Anyway, you can watch it here.

I hope you guys all had a good long weekend. My weekend was packed with The Hood Internet, Blondtron, and the Victoria Electronic Music Festival. Meanwhile, in Milwaukee: Melissa Czarnik was celebrating the release of her new album, “Raspberry Jesus”. Here’s Anattitude, the first single from Raspberry Jesus.

Rockstar Games has released a video of José González performing Far Away, from Red Dead Redemption.

Music is a huge part of videogames, and that’s a detail that the guys at Rockstar absolutely grasp.

Croydon’s dubstep juggernaut has been BUSY. Between Magnetic Man and his upcoming album, “Outside the Box”, Skream is killing it right now.

Here’s the new official video for Listenin’ to the Records on My Wall, from Skream’s new album, out August 9.

Meanwhile, there’s a video out for Perfect Stranger, by Magnetic Man x Katy B. Last time Katy B worked with Benga, we got Katy on a Mission, and I STILL can’t stop listening to that fire.

Skream’s been doing it for a minute, and his efforts are paying off bigtime. Magnetic man might be the first dubstep act to be signed to a major label, but we’ve already seen the likes of Chase & Status producing beats for Rihanna. Between brostep and the kind of accessible vocal dubstep we’re hearing from Katy B, it’s got some people feeling uneasy about the future of the genre. I’m glad they’re getting their money, this is good-ass music – but I can see where the bloggers are coming from. I don’t want to have to fight through an arena crowd the next time Datsik or Rusko comes to town. The grime nights here in Victoria are full of underground weirdos and that’s the way I like it! I’m not too concerned, though. Innovators tend to keep innovating.

Woah, where did the weekend go? This is The Naked and Famous, from New Zealand, with Young Blood. The Naked and Famous’ debut album, “Passive Me, Aggressive You” is due out this August. Keep your eyes peeled.

Would you rather be famous or naked? Food for thought.

Here’s a weird one: Hey Champ – Neverest

Dolphins, man. I dunno. I love the vocalist’s belaboured look of distress and confusion.
