Metal Hearts

by Joyce on Mar.28, 2009

So how many metal bands do you know that have female vocalists? Exactly.
I was super stocked when I first heard about Arch Enemy. My friend introduced them to me back in 11th grade I believe? Anyways that doesn’t really matter, what does matter is that their song Blood On Your hands has been blazing through car stereos all week. Also, if you didn’t know already, the guitarist is actually in Carcass which is another awesome metal band you should check out this weekend. Blood On Your Hands comes off of Arch Enemy’s seventh album entitled Rise of the Tyrant. Of course I encourage all who like this song to check out the rest of the album and check out their other work too.

It’s been a headbanger kind of week :D
Oh man i’m turning the clock back to 1994 with a lil song called “Don’t Care”. Obituary anyone? These guys are seriously one of the reasons why death metal is what it is.

Off of their album Blood Mountain. So good.
And now for something completely different

Cat Power – Metal Heart (Off the Jukebox Album) This is a reinterpretation she made of the song off her album Moon pix. I really like the new vibe she gave to it.

Pssstt, hey Duncan, click here.

There may also be some changes coming to Weekend Bangers soon…More info will soon follow

NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT!

by DMack on Mar.27, 2009

WELL. Today didn’t exactly go as planned. Some unexpected nonsense made the end of this work-week unusually difficult, but THAT’S over with, so I’ve let go of that. The only thing I brought with me from the office is this stupid new Ludacris track, Everybody Drunk. Around Wednesday or so, I thought I’d be super pumped when Friday finally rolled around, and I was going to crash into the weekend with this ridiculous beat blaring. As I said, things didn’t go as planned! I was sort of intending to go to a show this evening, with Shout Out Out Out Out and Longwalkshortdock. I ended up falling asleep after dinner and missing that. Oh well!

NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT.

My cardinal banger this week is an all-too-raw remix of Peter Bjorn & John‘s Nothing to Worry About.
Peter Bjorn and John – Nothing to Worry About (Troublemaker remix feat. Adam Tensta, U-N-I & The Stick Up Kids)
PB&J, Peanutbutter & Jam? Think about it.

I picked up the new MSTRKRFT (pretty good!) and Royksopp (fire!) earlier this week, but my listening mellowed out later in the week. Probably a big contributor to my falling ASLEEP at 6:30 today.

Neko Case – People Got a Lotta Nerve

YOU CAN BRING A FRIEND

Sigur Ros – Við spilum endalaust – Live @ A Take Away Show
Fredo Viola – The Turn (A Pagan Lament) – The blog post is all in french, but it mentions A-Ha’s Take On Me, because of the similar tune. It also features a random picture of boobies, which some people might take issue with, but not me. Not me at all.
Bloc Party – Signs (Armand Van Helden Remix)
Southstylers – Wroaw – this is a typical hardstyle song with a random movie quote sampled in, but the thing that makes it remarkable is that this particular movie quote is from THE GOONIES. It features poor Chunk recounting “the worst thing I ever done”.

NOBODY IS ON MSN SO I’LL KEEP TYPING
This week, Last.fm announced their plans to begin charging $5/month to use their radio service, in order to cover their licensing expenses, whcih I’m sure are ridiculously high. Just the radio is going to cost money, the rest will remain free. A lot of international users are losing their cool and switching to competitor services like Spotify, but unfortunately Spotify isn’t available to Canadian users at ANY price. I don’t know who to throw a tomato at over this, but I’m guessing the CRTC is a good place to start hating. As usual.

NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. – but a few desks are going to get flipped over and set on fire in the coming weeks/months. It’s an interesting time to be involved with music on the web.

Have a great weekend! You’ve really got nothing to worry about.

Mini Weekend

by Annie on Mar.24, 2009

I had a banger all picked out for this past weekend but I was just too lazy to post. But no issues I’m having a mini weekend now (who doesn’t love having Tuesdays off?) so I’ll post my banger too. So far, today has been a pretty bad day but hey this blog is for bangers only so I’ll save my bitching for another blog/person/whatever. I instantly fell in love with Lykke Li after hearing her live street performance of Little Bit and immediately started listening to Youth Novels nonstop. So I guess you can say I was delighted when I found out about her collaboration track with Kleerup and more than deeeelighted when I listened to the track. So wherever you are, at school at work at home or I want you guys to know I wish you a happy mini weekend (don’t forget, there are only 3 more days until the fo’ realz weekend).

Weekend Obsessions

by Joyce on Mar.23, 2009

What has Joyce been listening to this week? Well, let’s take a look shall we?

I really like the sound of Miss Marina Diamond ( or so she calls herself on her myspace). This song makes you just want to sing-a-long while the video makes you want to go weld some metal together and make beautiful metal art. I suggest also listening to the song Mowgli’s Road which you can find on her myspace or you know, you can just click here. But the song I am presenting is Obsessions. This is one of those instances where you wonder why these artists aren’t as big as they should be. Get the word out!

Now, Phoenix fans probably already know about the new album and one of the songs that I’ve been listening to from it is Lisztomania. So good.

More sweet deals
Kid Cudi – The Sky Might Fall (Full Studio Version) And then we have Kid Cudi doing his thing of course

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Dull Life The Yeah Yeah Yeahs have finished their album and this is the magic that comes with it!

POP LOCKING ON A DIVING BOARD!!

by DMack on Mar.21, 2009

This weekend, I want to share the new video by Fever Ray, which is the girl in The Knife’s solo project! This song’s called When I Grow Up, and it’s got a video that’s every bit as ethereal and dreamlike as the song.

I AIN’T GON’ TALK YA HEAD OFF:
MSTRKRFT – Bounce – Live on Jimmy Kimmel, featuring NORE checking his phone and Isis stumbling around on stage
Coeur De Pirate – Comme Des Enfants (Le Matos Andy Carmichael Remix)
Crookers – Atomic Baile Boy – free on Last.fm
Bass211 – Sure Fire Way – Beastie Boys vs. Bloodhound Gang vs. Run DMC, I was all about this track for like an hour on wednesday. I hope it brightens up one of your hours, too.

TAPE TALK and other grooves

by Joyce on Mar.16, 2009

Hello err’body, do I have a list for you or WHAT? these are some topnotch bangers that have been on repeat since MONDAY. That’s right, Monday. The goodness just won’t stop, it’s impossible not to listen to these bangers.

First, Little Boots has been one of the reasons I’ve been grooving all week.
You must all to go her website where you can download her exclusive mixtape. A must hear for this week.

Now, with that mixtape in your ears you must listen to the the Fred Falke Remix of little boots’ New in town.

I posted a Fred Falke remix last week but that’s only expected if this guy keeps up with these awesome bangers. Which he will.

More delicious bangers
There honestly isn’t just one clear weekend banger for me. ALL of these songs are worthy of being bangers, and they are. I was thinking of maybe saving them for next week but I really can’t. These must be posted NOW.

I love the 80′s vibe on this song. Makes me wanna dance every time I hear it

I actually wasn’t expecting this AMAZING cover. They should have attempted the Dr.Dre part haha

That’s it for me.
PEACE

FIRST THINGS FIRST!!

by DMack on Mar.14, 2009

I’ve got a ton of stuff to do this weekend, but obviously I need to get some jams together first. No use running all over town in complete silence!

My main groove this week is Kutiman‘s “I’m New”; a remix of various clips that he found on youtube. Many of the clips he used were super-obscure, and had only a few hundred views when I first looked.

He’s got all of his mixes at thru-you.com. My other favorites are “Babylon Band” and “Just a Lady“.

Let’s get in our giant robots and go for a giant walk:
TSPO – Hazumu Rhythm – for Joyce, because she loves PUFFY.
Mustard Pimp – Valium – zShare has so many ads!
Speech Debelle – The Key (The Loose Cannons remix)
The Machinist – Doom Orbison – Free download from last.fm, bless ‘em!
Enter Shikari – Antwerpen – so many ads, holy SMOKES.
IconInMe – That Day, That Sorrow – This kind of industrial/groove metal takes me waaay back. I honestly must have been like 11 years old, listening to Fear Factory on my dad’s computer.

Stadium Love

by Annie on Mar.13, 2009

Hello Friends! I don’t know about you guys, but it feels like the days and weeks have been flying by. This week was especially tiring for me and it’s not even over yet (spoiler: it never ends), I still have to go to school tomorrow and then I finally have a day off to recover. DE-pressing, I know. This week I have a banger from Metric’s new album, Fantasies. The album comes out April 14th…Metric fans will love this album and I suggest those who aren’t already their fans give this album comes out on it’s release date. (A) For those lucky enough, start enjoying your weekend for me.

Edit: I keep forgetting to post this but check out this amazing site http://www.theplaceswelive.com/

No room for error with this song baby, it’s been getting me pumped ever since the first time I heard it. It’s been my weekend banger before but not as far as this site goes :P

The song is Golden cage ( Fred Falke remix) – Whitest Boy Alive. I really like this remix but you can listen to the original here

More healing chicken soup
The Knife – We Share Our Mother’s Health (Ratatat Remix)
Jenny Wilson – Let my shoes lead me forward

That’s it for me! Have a Great weeke—I just sneezed…ugh

TURN ON YOUR S.A.D. LIGHT!!!!!

by DMack on Mar.07, 2009

Good morning, Internet! I’m sorry I woke ya, I just have to say what’s on my mind like Oprah.
Last week I said I didn’t have much to say. That turned out to be a LIE. It was true when I typed it, but then the weekend-bangin’ spirit possessed me and I found the words. This week I’m not gonna talk your head off, this is all I got. Let’s do this.

Lady Sovereign – So Human

Dag Vag – Dimma (live)

Wale – B’more Club Slam – You can (and should) get the whole mixtape for free here by the way.
Sebastien Tellier – Roche
Teriyaki Boyz – Work That
Glasvegas – Daddy’s Gone – a glasgow scot accent is like the flutter of ANGEL WINGS
