FALLING IN LOVE AGAIN!!!

by DMack on Apr.24, 2009

Spring is a good time to fall in love. I fall in love ten times a day; it’s tough, but I get through the heartbreak by reacquainting myself with DEM CLASSICS.
I got 808s and Heartbreak for Christmas and, after spending the winter with it, I don’t want a return-to-form from Kanye West, I want to see what’s NEXT.
This is Robocop, live on VH1 Storytellers in LA.

808s is a divisive album, even for people who were already Kanye fans. Look past his fashion-mullet, and the fact that he messed up the lyrics at the start. The performance is great, “Drop it drop it!”
Somebody named STREETKNOWLEDGE has uploaded a great deal of the show here for you to check out: Kanye West – Vh1 Storyteller
I’m not going to link to the VH1 official video because it’s not available outside the US.

Freshness, Newness, & cetera

Enter Shikari – Juggernauts – The first single from their dampening new album, “Common Dreads”, due out in June.
Kool & The Gang – Fresh
Mr. Hudson – There Will Be Tears
Krazy Baldhead – Katana Powa (feat. Big-O & Mademoiselle Yulia)
The Game – Show
Kid Cudi – She Came Along (feat. Sharam)

This one’s a bonus, nobody click on this one: Tommy Sparks – She’s Got Me Dancing
Also somebody said he wanted to hear some more Wale

Okay, go play outside!

Don’t call it a comeback!

by Joyce on Apr.24, 2009

I honestly don’t know what to say. This entire week was just filled with one amazing song after the other.

On the 17th Basement Jaxx appeared on a radio program called Pete Tong’s radio show where they announced the forthcoming album AND as a bonus put out this gem of a tune to initiate its first ever radio play. Ever since then, Raindrops has pretty much been circulating the internet and honestly its been on repeat since the moment I heard it.

Hey Ben remember Chewing Gum Fraise with Numero#? Remember how you loved it so much? Well guess what. He’s baacckk and with an awesome song and album. Tonton Klaxon is on the repeat playlist with Basement Jaxx. Fire.

You know who else has a new album? TIGA! His album was leaked which was causing quite a ster but I was able to hear a few songs off of his new CIAO! album and I must say, it’s good stuff. So far my favorite song is Love Don’t Dance Here Anymore featuring Soulwax.

I’ll just post those mp3s here one by one.

Love Don’t Dance Here Anymore ( Ft. Soulwax) – TIGA

Tonton Klaxon – Numero#

Now I might get some weird looks for this one. However, Katy Perry went intimate with the Orange Lounge ( that MSN AOL thing ) and played accoustic versions of her popular songs and I absolutely loved what she did with Hot and Cold.

Katy Perry: 'Hot N Cold'
Katy Perry: ‘Hot N Cold’

Just a bitch with a golden chain

by Annie on Apr.19, 2009

Joyce loves the 80’s and I guess Duncan has his thing with the metallic new age year 2000 thing, and me? Right in between. The 90’s are making a come back, have we not seen all the hipsters everywhere wearing their acid wash jeans,  high top sneakers and florescent shirts. I’m not so much of a fan of the 90’s fashions but I’m more into the music of the 90’s. Even though I grew up in the 90’s,  I was much too young to appreciate all the thriving bands back then. But I eventually caught on (like 10 years later though). I don’t know about you but Sonic Youth’s Schizophrenia is a song I can listen to all weekend long (although the weekend is almost over!).

The Pixies, another great band from the 90’s. The song Where is my Mind was the perfect song to end of Fight Club.  I picked Emmy the Great’s cover of the song cause I like her tamer version. Who doesn’t want to be tamed once in a while right?

Bonus: Not from the 90’s but whatever

EVERYTHING IS GREAT!!!!!!!!

by DMack on Apr.17, 2009

Another mouth-watering weekend is upon us, and my excitement is palpable.  So go ahead… palp it.

This boy here enjoys a bit of nerdcore hiphop, this is no secret. Everyone else hates it, but this weekend I’d love for you to check out Daryl Hannah, by a group of funk-hiphop nerds from Seattle called Optimus Rhyme.

The song is about a transformer that seeks to shed its metallic parts and become a real human being, similar to what Daryl Hannah did as a mermaid in the movie SPLASH, except replace metal with half of a FISH.

You can hear these too, if you’re sincere:

Inner Circle – Everything is Great – HAH, yes.
Lady Gaga – Poker Face (feat. Chamillionaire) – This is actually not the first song I heard last week that goes down the poker face / poke-her-face route.. Curious.
Karoshi Bros – Fuck the World – The clean version says “love the world”, also curious.

Enjoy life, it’s a beautiful journey.

Time Machine Fridays

by Joyce on Apr.17, 2009

hooray for the weekend!
3 exams done and 2 more to go, then it’s a wonderful celebration of 4 months of summer! YES!

I would like to start off with a confession…Sometimes I wish I was born in the 80’s so that my wild crazy curls would be praised and in style. Sigh…I guess I’ll just have to live passed that. NOT!
You don’t have to go mental or anything but I think it’s right that we go back in time and visit the 80’s. A decade of bad hair, classic movies, Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man and of course, great music.

I’ve been riding my bicycle a lot, I bought a helmet Yesterday…and I’ve been listening to this song all week.

Riding a bicycle naked must be really really uncomfortable.

As if I need to even explain why this next song is on here:

So I guess this is old news by now, but I thought it was pretty funny when PETA asked the Pet Shop Boys to change their name to something more “animal friendly”, where of course the band replied ‘uh…no?’.  ha ha love it.
The band posted the entire incident on their website here.

More From the Time Capsule

Bobby McFerrin – Don’t worry, Be happy This should be the anthem to everyday life.

Toto - Africa There was a remake of this song by Karl Wolf…but I will not be linking to it. You can go search that yourself.

And with that wonderful trip to the past over, we’re back to the present.
But to keep up with the 80’s theme I’ll leave you with one final banger.
Calvin Harris- Acceptable in the 80s

I got love for you, if you were born in the 80’s.
Peace and love, duh.

What does the Crypt Keeper listen to?

by Joyce on Apr.12, 2009

Whose ready for the amazing fun that is Easter egg hunting? NOT ME, I don’t get to do it cause I’m locked up in a dark room like the crypt keeper studying for my exams.

I’ll be honest, I do go watch TV here and there for my breaks…really long breaks. I’m not that big on studying haha. But of course my breaks consist of some fine tunage.
So let’s begin:

What did you wake up to day? Cause I think it should be to this:

No one appreciates what I did there? fine.

Say hi to your mother, or now simply known as Say hi, has been making me sing about northwestern girls for like 2 months now. I actually thought that I posted this as a weekend banger before but clearly it seems I have not.

You can go on Say Hi’s official website and download this song for free or you can just click here. I encourage you all to check his myspace and listen to some of his other stuff, then you can go buy his album ;) .

More Stuff from the Crypt Keeper

Little Garcon – Born Ruffians

You don’t need no doctor, sugar – The Library

Everywhere feat. Martina Topley Bird – Common

Well, I guess I should go back into my cave now…

by DMack on Apr.12, 2009

FOUR DAY WEEKEND, SNITCHES!!! How’s it goin’? I hope you’re all finding a bit of time to frolic and enjoy life. The past few weeks have been busy as! School-based peoples are in the thick of exam season, but even I have been super busy… and I don’t DO ANYTHING.

My first ear-sexer this week is by The Bloody Beetroots, a raw jammer called Warp (feat. Steve Aoki). The Bloody Beetroots actually just played a show in Vancouver last night, so this is for everybody (myself included) who didn’t get to go.

In a world where bad haircuts reign supreme, a man that looks like THIS is king:

FURTHERMORE:

Flying Lotus – GNG BNG
POLYSICS – Pretty Good – I bet the name of that dance is the “!!!”
HEALTH – Die Slow – download here

Keep it on full blast for the rest of the weekend.

Daylight and Midnight

by Joyce on Apr.05, 2009

EXAM WEEK, wooo does anyone else feel nauseous? Well I have the remedy to calm your souls and give you a lil push to do the right thing ( whether that be to study or to go out and have fun…I don’t judge).

I was never really one to promote songs that are already being played on the radio, in fact I never downloaded songs that play on the radio cause I feel like I can just listen to the radio and hear it. I DUNNO, that’s just the way I work. But this one song is just so good and I love it so much. The imagery in the song and just the whole allure and sound of it, I just really really like it.
The Airborne Toxic Event are a rising band representing LA and actually had a show here in Ottawa I believe. Anyways, their song Sometime Around Midnight is definitely a smooth banger that I’ve been listening to all week, I find myself tuning in to the radio waiting for the song to come on.

Now, these following songs makes me swing my head from side to side in a happily manner, it’s unexplainable.
Matt and Kim – Daylight

Asobi Seksu – Familiar Light (Twins Remix) or here

Exams? What Exams?

Playlist Add Ons
Atmosphere-Wild Wild Horses. This song is actually written about our best friend Ben.

Trouble Andrew-Chase Money. Trouble Andrew actually put out a new remixed and remastered CD that you guys can check out if you’re interested.

This is Joyce, signing off. ahaha.

STILL HERE KICKING ASS!!!!!!!

by DMack on Apr.04, 2009

IS THIS THING ON? Namaste, dear friends. This last week has been a doozy. As you can see, we’ve got Weekend Bangers up and running on a new platform (Wordpress, I see you!) and on a new server (Magilla I see you!). Shouts out to Magilla, aka the thunder from downunder, who has graciously offered to host our little blizznog.

I was pretty busy this past week, trying to spin the site up as quickly as possible without breaking too many things. I think it’s strangely fitting that the first song I have to post in this new era is by Kid Sister. Peep: Pro Nails (Rusko remix), a dubstep remix of Pro Nails.  The first official Weekend Banger ever was by Kid Sis around this same time last year. It was a delightful club banger about beepers that I won’t link to here because of a promise I made to Annie, but I assure you the track took no prisoners.

My main thing this week is UGK – Da Game Been Good To Me. I first heard this song on Tuesday night and I couldn’t get enough of the beat – the deep, twangy guitar sounds like it’s straight out of a cowboy movie or Duane Eddy album. For the most part I was neither here nor there on the musical stylings of mister Pimp C, (to whom the game also belonged to – HAH, southern rap joke.) but now after he died of a drank overdose, I’ve heard dozens of tributes and UGK has grown on me a bit. Pimp C truly is the Heath Ledger of southern rap. (WHAT?)

Before I go back to sleep on the couch: Geneva – Museum Mile
