As far as i’m concerned The Presets are freakin’ awesome.

READY FOR THE WEEKEND!

by DMack on Aug.21, 2009

Oh BOY, everybody! Check out this MUSIC! I’m so excited to share this stuff with you.

The first thing I want to share is Harperactive, an extremely prolific electronic music producer that blends threatening basslines with totally random samples (cat noises, clips from Big Brother, and so on..).  His music isn’t bound by any genre labels, and often borders on ridiculous for one reason or another. All of Harperactive’s music is free, so go GET it. If your attention span can’t accommodate a whole album, I recommend starting with the likes of Knockout Ned, off the album “Bangkok Dangerous“.

The new Calvin Harris record come out on monday and it destroys. Appropriately titled Ready For The Weekend, the tracks fit right in with the “Friday, Saturday, Sunday” aesthetic we’ve created here. I posted “Dance Wiv Me” back in May – I advise you to go refresh your memory on how raw that tune is.

Check out the latest single. You’re not gonna EVEN believe it.
Calvin Harris – Ready for the Weekend

As an added bonus, check out this video of a “Human Synthesizer” he made out of sexy ladies.

I also want to share the video for Angels in Airplanes by Another Robot Sunset. You can watch it on Youtube, and/or get the free mp3 from lastfm. Their website is down right now so I’ll leave it at that, I guess!

A CURE FOR WHATEVER STATE YOU’RE IN

PJ Pooterhoots – Movin’ Right Along – a gnarly analog synth cover of the song from the Muppets Movie

Miike Snow – Animal (Fred Falke remix) – Fred Falke does it again on an already-fresh banger that I believe Ms. Joyce posted not too long ago.

Sunny Pierrot – This Day of Electricity – this is what’s up, and it’s BEEN what’s up all week long for me.

Hey, Goodmorning

by Joyce on Aug.17, 2009

Let’s get down to it.
You may or may not remember Example for his Hooligans track back with Don Diablo (That`s where I know him from) well he’s back with a fresh track called Watch The Sun Come Up. It’s pretty chill and you can listen to the original here.
However, I really really like the vibe that Falke gave to this piece so I’m sharing this remix.
Fred Falke basically puts out a mix every hour so he’s bound to have bangers DAILY. I think that’s essentially his goal. So anyways, here Example’s Watch the Sun Come up (Fred Falke Remix)

MOVIE SHOWCASE

White Lies – Death (Crystal Castles Remix)

MSTRKRFT – Heartbreaker (I really like the video for this)

There are some other ill remixes of this Heartbreaker like the 12th Planet Remix[mp3] and Wolfgang Gartner Remix[mp3] . I`ll let you pick your favorites :)

UGH MY EYE IS ITCHY. Sorry had to get that out there…peace.

YOU CERTAINLY FEEL SOMETHING!!!

by DMack on Aug.15, 2009

Holyyyyyy crow, everybody! I have some neat music to share with you this weekend. I didn’t get around to posting last week because I was too busy aging. I’m now a hundred and ten years old and, given my age, pretty proficient at working this blogging machine.

The video for No Escape! by Arman Bohn reminds me of my first real experience with computers when I was in kindergarten.

It almost makes me feel old, almost.

OLD ENOUGH TO KNOW BETTER, YOUNG ENOUGH TO NOT CARE

Bloody Beetroots  – Awesome (feat. The Cool Kids) – word to Hypebeast

Chase & Status – Running – I meant to post this last week because it’s what’s up, but I had a lot of sleeping to do.

DJ Zinc – Creeper (feat. Dynamite MC)

88-Keys – The Friends Zone (feat. Shitake Monkey) – Try to ignore the misogyny that seems to rear its head in the lyrics of every 88-Keys song I’ve ever heard.

I like to keep a mystery

by Joyce on Aug.08, 2009

Vancouver has got to cool down and with the fresh music scene that comes out of that place I don’t think it’ll be hard to. Said The Whale has been getting me through work ( 3 more weeks and i’m DONE). I’ve been listening to their EP on CBC radio 3 and their song Camilo (The Magician) has basicly been on repeat since the moment I heard it.

Ya, I’m one of those repeat-a-song-continually kind of person.

I actually heard about Radio, Radio on Canada day because they were part of this concert series part of the whole downtown celebration experience. Anyways, i have never laughed so much at a concert. Their mixture of English and French in their lyrics were so hilarious. I could barely understand what they were saying with their thick Acadian accent. It was a great time.
I’m pretty sure that if I was a rapper I’d rap in both French and English though. Just to give an example on why I was laughing, in one of their songs they rapped about sun dried tomatoes…but I can’t seem to find that specific song so here’s Jacuzzi instead.

Also check out: Radio, Radio – Cliche hot [video]

On the serious side of things…

We are Scientists – After Hours [Youtube]
Andrew Bird – Heretics [mp3]
Okkervil River – Song of our so-called friend [Youtube]

WEEKEND BANGERS HAS THAT SUMMERTIME HEAT!!!!!!!!!

by DMack on Aug.02, 2009

S-A-TUR-DAY- … NIGHT! Hi everyone! I’ll do you a solid and actually keep things brief this week. Let’s go!

The new Enter Shikari video for No Sleep Tonight!

IT FEELS WEIRD TO FOREGO PLEASANTRIES, EVEN ON A BLOG

The Kickdrums collaborated with an MC named Verbal (not the one from the Teriyaki Boyz, I think this dude’s from Cleveland…) on a hiphop record called Idiot Savant. The album has Verbal, whose voice sounds a tiny bit like Celph Titled, rapping over beats produced by The Kickdrums. And it’s fire, so get it! Download Kickdrums & Verbal – Idiot Savant.

Verbal really goes in on “The Times”, which samples “Such Great Heights” by The Postal Service, and the beat on “Don’t Say a Word” is pretty great.

Track 10 is called Ice Princess. The beat features the guitar riff from The Cure’s “Lullaby” and I feel like this track needs a special mention because maybe sometimes ice princesses get a bad wrap. We’re in the middle of a summer heat wave, so maybe an ice princess is exactly what I need…

Idiot Savant – Ice PrincessIce Princess, should I get dressed, or // get in that bath tub and give you a back ruuuuub?
