Valerie, Friends and the Sea

by Joyce on Mar.27, 2010

Got a lot of work this week so I’m just grooving out to some Presets.

Girl and the Sea is a great tune and has an awesome video  ↓

BUT ALSO:

VALERIE AND FRIENDS

Have I talked about the Valerie and Friends album? If I haven’t then i’m ashamed of myself because it’s totally awesome. Every single track on that thing is pure love. It’s a compilation album featuring the likes of Minitel Rose, Anoorak, Jupiter, College and much more all under the name of Valerie Collective. You can listen to the entire album on Grooveshark right here. DO IT!

SOME PICKS FROM THE ALBUM

Loose Shus – Red Sonja

Electric Youth – Faces

SIMPLE PLEASURES!!!!!!!!!

by DMack on Mar.27, 2010

Henry Homesweet is an chiptune electro artist from the UK who just concluded a US tour together with THE 8 BIT ALLIANCE, which culminated in what I can only assume was an unforgettable SXSW 2010.

This is Henry Homesweet – Simple Pleasures (live @ Chiptune Alliance)

The sound isn’t the best on this video, but it’s guaranteed to bend your circuits nonetheless. I love how the stage lights create a weird effect on the camera lens, and the person holding the camera was dancing in time with the beat so the crazy purple lines almost sync up with the song.

Check out OkiiRobo Navigation System, my favorite Henry Homesweet track. Hear it or download it for free at 8bitcollective.

The video for Vitalic‘s Second Lives is pretty cool. It explores peoples’ private selves by showing what goes on behind closed doors in a bathroom stall. I know that’s a weird description, but check it out. It’s a great tune with a really clever video.

LOOKY HERE!!!

by DMack on Mar.22, 2010

Lykke Li has posted a live video of a new song, called Possibility on her blog. Last week was way too bananas to post it when it was timely (the video was posted on Thursday), but here it is!

The echo effect used on the track made me think of her evocative, but low-fi version of “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow“.

FLIRTPHONIC!

Turning up the tempo (and volume) a bit, I also want to stamp my coveted seal of approval on this Flirtphonic remix of N.A.S.A.‘s track, Gifted. Where the original pounds like a club track, this Korean remix artist has turned the sound into sort of an electro house / dance punk banger.
N.A.S.A. featuring Kanye West, Santogold, & Lykke Li – Gifted (Flirtphonic Remix) – big ups to HYPETRAK for posting this one.

And don’t miss Flirtphonic’s huuuuuuuuuuge remix of Organ Donor:

Rockin’ times

by Joyce on Mar.13, 2010

Asaf Avidan and the Mojos is a band from Israel and I’ve been listening to their album on GrooveShark all week. The singer has a really captivating voice and he sounds just like Janis Joplin or something.

The song Weak, the fourth song from Avidan’s album The Reckoning is one of those songs that you can just sit down and listen to over and over again because of his unique and soothing vocals.

Also you have to listen to the song Her lies BUT you have to listen to this live session right here. Music starts at around 1:30.

Don’t Forget:

Dirty Goods – Hollywood [youtube]

Dinosaur JR – See you [youtube]

**I’d just like to add that GrooveShark is a totally awesome site for listening to music for free without having to download. If you like a song then you can simply heart it and add it to your playlist. I use this site everyday and just wanted to point it out to anyone who may be looking for a new way to listen to music online! 5 Stars!

Maybe I should start linking to GrooveShark instead of youtube…I hate youtube.

WE WON’T BACK DOWN FROM ANYTHING!!

by DMack on Mar.07, 2010

Crookers are definitely a favourite here at Weekend Bangers, and I was really impressed when I heard this “rework” of their song Remedy (feat. Miike Snow) by Jeuce. Jeuce is an “electropunk” crew from Leeds that’s done a bunch of really big remixes, including some rad and crunchy ones for Ellie Goulding and Ladytron.

My band? It’s in my mouth.

Guys like Reggie Watts, Dub FX and Joe Driscoll are just insanely cool and good at what they do. These artists basically combine their vocal talents with beatboxing, sound effects and an awesome looping pedal instrument to create their songs and style. It’s incredibly fun and addictive to hear them play and is a must listen this week!

I was really digging Reggie Watts’ I Just Want To. It’s so catchy and really fun to watch him put everything together in the video below as you see how he just does his thing.

Also I’d just like to note that I want Reggie’s afro…and I love his suspenders in this haha.

Don’t forget to check out:

Dub FX – Made
Dub FX – Love Someone
Joe Driscoll – Just Once

Seriously i’ve just been browsing dowdenboy‘s Youtube account all morning  he’s got some more amazing videos for these artists and much more!
