NOTHING TO LOSE!!!!!

by on Jun.16, 2010

So Lady Gaga’s single for Alejandro is out… The video isn’t the biz, so don’t bother, but the single came up in conversation with Ben earlier during our weekly Breaking Bad roundtable. The single has a big remix by mister Rusko on it, but what really caught my attention was the remix by Skrillex, an electro house dude from LA whose work I was previously not privy to.

After a few go-rounds with his hectic remix of Alejandro, I looked the dude up and it would seem he’s got an EP available for free download.

Download “My Name Is Skrillex” EP for free and check out Skrillex on myspace

Here’s a preview:

HYPE CHECK: DOES THE NEW DRAKE ALBUM STINK?

My first impression of Thank Me Later was “It’s no So Far Gone” (the mixtape, not the EP which wasn’t as good). The dude has talent, and I was excited for his debut LP but never that excited. But I guess a lot of people were, and there was just no way the album could live up to the hype. Or… maybe everyone got sick of Drizzy after seeing that same Sprite commercial 200 times during every basketball game? Whaaaaat! I think it’s still a great album, and there’s no doubt it’s got some rippers on there… but it’s not what it could have been.

Two years ago I wouldn’t have believed you if you’d told me I’d be bumping Uffie harder than Drake – I can still barely believe it. The new Uffie is FIRE.

Uffie – MC’s Can Kiss

This is my favorite shit right now!

HAUNTED HOUSE!!!!

by on Jun.12, 2010

I’ve been listening to a lot of drag music lately.

White Ring – Roses

Also known as “haunted house” or ”witch house”, I’ve seen drag records most aptly described as “screwgaze” (a portmanteau of shoegaze and screwed/chopped). Groups like SALEM and oOoOO bring a really brilliant sound; familiar 808s suspended among a dark, incongruous droning. Imagine a styrofoam cup with a voodoo doll in it. The southern hiphop / DJ Screw influence is much more apparent on certain tracks, but it’s all intriguing.

Salem – Redlights

Don’t miss Salem on We Make it Good, vol. 11 – featuring oOoOO and Salem’s own fantastic remix of Gucci Mane’s “Round One”.

ELECTRIC BOOGALOO!!!

by on Jun.08, 2010

Roll Deep crew’s Wiley teamed up with mega-babe Jodie Connor once again for his latest single, Electric Boogaloo! Electric Boogaloo is the third single from Wiley’s upcoming The Elusive.

KEEP IT ROCKIN’ // PARTY AIN’T STOPPIN!!!!!!

I didn’t post the video for Good Times when it first came out in March, and embedding is disabled (dumb!), but make sure to watch it 100 times if you haven’t already. It’s huuge. Not exactly what you’d expect to hear from a grime crew, but huge!  Roll Deep – Good Times (feat. Jodie Connor)

THERE’S PARTY EVERYWHERE!!!!

by on Jun.06, 2010

Catching up on a few dancefloor-destroyers that I haven’t yet posted. This is Scooter – The Sound Above My Hair.

I love how the global hardstyle community treats their cheesy craft with the seriousness of a Shakespearean theatre group.

WHEN I’M IN THE CLUB…. !!

by on Jun.03, 2010

Joakim from JJ is awesome. In these live videos from SXSW 2010, he just stands in one spot on the stage and doesn’t do anything but sway back and forth, and occasionally smoke a cigarette.

JJ – Ecstasy (live @ SXSW 2010)

Dude looks like Val Kilmer’s character from HEAT, so he’s forever in my good books based on that alone.

JJ – My Way (live @ SXSW 2010)

Is it not cool to call it SXSW 2010 anymore? Do we have to start call it "South-By" now? I hope not.
