WE DON’T SPEAK AMERICANO!!

by on Sep.28, 2010

Yolanda Be Cool vs. DCup – We No Speak Americano is definitely one of my favourite beats of the year. It’s 2010’s Riverside in my eyes. If you haven’t seen the video already, it’s charmingggg.

MARVELLOUS

The Marvell hiphop crew recently went in over the Americano beat for a “Marvell Monday” freestyle, which reminded me how dope the tune is. HAVE A LISTEN.

STUMBLE INTO THE NIGHT!!!!!

by on Sep.26, 2010

The video for LCD Soundsystem’s Home tells the story of a robot that becomes autonomous and self-aware after being assembled from a Lite Brite and a hi-fi by a lonely old man. Being made of kitschy outdated technology, this retro robot is predictably irresistible to hipsters.  Hipsters want to party with him wherever he goes… and I don’t want to spoil the end, but this is a great video!

FEEL THE STEEL!!!!!!

by on Sep.17, 2010

Ninja Magic got a new vocalist! They’ve replaced their powerfully shrill ninja vocalist with a female kunoichi vocalist, whose voice is actually deeper than the old dude’s. Their sound has changed somewhat since ‘04 as well.  Besides sounding cleaner and more refined, their newer songs incorporate some sneaky synth elements. Synth elements are usually good things coming from Sweden, and sneaky is usually a good thing coming from ninjas.

Here’s Ninja Magic with their new vocalist, playing The Way of Life to a probably-drunk crowd in their hometown of Luleå, Sweden. As you can see, they’ve still got their charmingly homemade ninja costumes and charmingly homemade pyro effects.

WORD ON THE STREET

Ratatat in Vancouver was an okay show. The engineers were a complete joke and it sounded awful, but they played a bunch of bangers and had crazy hologram things, so it was decent.

Here’s a clip from their show in Seattle the night before, the sound quality on this video is honestly cleaner than what we heard at the Commodore on Wednesday, oh well.

Ratatat – Loud Pipes (live in Seattle, Sept 14, 2010)

How about a 25 word review of the new Weezer album? NO. IT REALLY SUCKS.

Enjoy your weekend!

HERE WITH ME!!!!!

by on Sep.15, 2010

Here’s a great instrumental tune with an oddly perfect music video. This is Jakwob – Here With Me

When this post goes live, I’ll probably be on the ferry to Vancouver to see Ratatat tonight! Your boy’s probably asleep on one of those purple or blue chairs RIGHT now.

In honour of my expected high-seas slumbering: here’s some smooth travellin’ music. A bit of South African triphop for you, with less than 500 views on youtube to get your hipster points up.

YOU GOTTA G–WOOP!!!!!!!!!

by on Sep.13, 2010

It’s monday night already, and I owe you guys some chunes! First, I’ll lift you ouuuuuuut:

Pendulum – Witchcraft (Rob Swire’s Drumstep mix)

Oh my days this is a great mix. If you don’t have the latest Pendulum album, you’re missing out on some fire. Fire so hot it burns purple.

Aaaaaand chill it out a bit. I’m part way through the new Röyksopp album as I type this, so it’s got me in a bit of a slower mood.

This is Esben and the Witch – Marching Song

Midnight Club

by on Sep.10, 2010

Russ Chimes, also part of the collaboration group Valerie Collective, is making serious tunes on his own with tracks off of  his Midnight Club EP; promoting it in style no less with an awesome trilogy music video. Never Look Back, the first of the videos introduces you to your players and the plot while syncing the beat and feel of the song nicely. Tertre Rouge and Targa both continue the story in their respective orders following your hero to the final conclusion.

Targa, which he announced on his blog, will be the debut single with the other 2 tracks on his debut EP.

Russ Chimes’ songs will have you dancing all night so be sure to check out his work. Here’s part 1, Never Look Back.

Don’t forget to watch part 2 and part 3!!

Also, be sure to check out the Valerie Collective for other great artists. The entire Valerie and Friends album is a great listen. I posted about it awhile ago but NOTHING’S CHANGED! Check it out!

WHO’S THAT?!!

by on Sep.07, 2010

BROOOOOOOOWNNNNNN. What up? I slept through that weekend for sure. The banks were closed for Labour Day, and so was my damn laptop.  Good thing you’re not wearing white pants anymore, because this video will make you lose your shit.

Das Racist – Who’s That? Brooown!

Das Racist is on a Police Quest tip in this friggin’ AMAZING video for "Who’s That?". This is definitely a contender for video of the year in my eyes. New Das Racist mixtape, “Sit Down, Man” is out Sept. 14th.

Where Did the Night Fall

by on Sep.02, 2010

Wow finally back home after living in Canada’s Arctic for 4 months!

On my flight back home I flew with Air Canada Jazz where I surprisingly had a vast array of music to choose from as part of the XM radio music deal as well as movies and television choices. I found myself listening to UNKLE‘s album entitled ‘Where Did the Night Fall’. The entire album was perfect for listening in the air which I assume is the reason it got promoted in such a way.

Among the track list, The Answer featuring Big in Japan came to be one of my favorite bangers on the album, which by the way is their fifth studio album. Heavy drug which is only 1:13 minutes long  makes a nice mix as well as a beautiful introduction for the track Caged Bird that follows right after it.

Here’s The Answer ft Big in Japan. Music starts at around 1:40

Don’t forget to check out the rest of the album!

Gah it’s good to be home :)
